In a previous newsletter, we informed you about a Government incentive to recruit long-term unemployed people.

142 employers have signed up to receive recruitment subsidies since the launch last week.
Although most companies in the UK do not appear to be recruiting during the current recession, the Government hopes this scheme can help those who are long-term unemployed. Royal Mail, Poundland and Nestor Healthcare are among the employers to have joined up with Jobcentre Plus with a view to taking up the subsidies to recruit and train unemployed people. The firms will be given up to £1,000 for the recruitment and £1,500 for training if they take on jobseekers who have been out of work for 6 months or more.
Welcoming the employer take-up so far, work and pensions secretary James Purnell said: “The economic downturn is making it hard for many employers to plan for their future employment needs. We are very pleased to be able to offer a package of support which will not only help employers fill their vacancies, but will also help jobseekers find sustainable work, so it’s a win-win situation.”
